CB&I Signs MoU with Korea Gas Corp

Last year, South Korea announced plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 by replacing coal-fired power generation with renewable sources and internal combustion engine vehicles with hydrogen-powered and battery-based electric vehicles. KOGAS has grown into the largest LNG-importing company in the world and operates four LNG regasification terminals and 4,945 km of natural gas pipelines in South Korea. "Hydrogen has emerged as a key enabler to meet these decarbonization goals and KOGAS will play a leading role in building the infrastructure for hydrogen shipping, storage and distribution to make these ambitions a reality," said Seung Lee, Executive Vice President of KOGAS. CB&I specializes in designing and building field-erected pressure spheres capable of storing liquid hydrogen at temperatures of minus 423 degrees Fahrenheit and is nearing completion of the world's largest liquid hydrogen sphere in Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. CB&I Awarded STI/SPFA

McDermott's storage business, CB&I, was presented with two Field-Erected Tank of the Year awards by the Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA) during its annual meeting in New Orleans, LA. The API 620 Low Pressure Liquid Storage Tank category was awarded to CB&I for the design and construction of a 1.2 million-gallon Egg-Shaped Digester and associated equipment for the City of Fremont in Fremont, NE. The award for the ASME Pressure Vessel Storage category recognized the replacement of a hot lime softener vessel with a net capacity of 183,700 gallons and design temperature for 300 degrees Fahrenheit at a refinery in Linden, NJ. "Since 2012, CB&I has received a total of 28 awards in the field... > read more

Chevron Launches CCS Project

Chevron USA Inc, through its Chevron New Energies division, has announced it is launching a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project aimed at reducing the carbon intensity of its operations in San Joaquin Valley, California. Chevron aims to reduce its carbon intensity - the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted per unit of energy produced - by installing CO2 post-combustion capture equipment, capturing the CO2, and then safely storing it thousands of feet underground. This CCS initiative would begin at Chevron’s Kern River Eastridge cogeneration plant in Kern County, California. “At Chevron, we believe the future of energy is lower carbon. Reducing the carbon intensity of the energy people rely on day-in and day-out is well-aligned with the ambitions of the Paris Agreement,” said Chris Powers, vice president of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) for Chevron New Energies. “We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate... > read more

JERA Americas To Acquire Thermal Power

JERA Americas, the Houston-based subsidiary of global energy leader JERA, has entered into an agreement to acquire a 1,633 megawatt (MW) thermal power portfolio in New England from Stonepeak. The portfolio consists of four thermal power generating facilities-Canal 1 (566 MW), Canal 2 (559 MW) and Canal 3 (333 MW) in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod and Bucksport (175 MW) in Bucksport, Maine. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Stonepeak was advised by J.P. Morgan Securities LLC. “The transition to net zero CO2 emissions energy is a multi-step process demanding emission reduction on many fronts with several different technologies. Securing these assets will allow us to reduce CO2 emissions from the existing facilities and use these locations as a foothold for supporting largescale renewable energy facilities and technologies,” said Steven Winn, JERA Americas CEO... > read more

BP and Linde Plan to Advance Major CCS Project

BP and Linde have announced plans to advance a major carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Texas that will enable low carbon hydrogen production at Linde’s existing facilities. The development will also support the storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from other industrial facilities – paving the way for large-scale decarbonization of the Texas Gulf Coast industrial corridor. Upon completion, the project will capture and store CO2 from Linde’s hydrogen production facilities in the greater Houston area – and potentially from its other Texas facilities – to produce low carbon hydrogen for the region. The low carbon hydrogen will be sold to customers along Linde’s hydrogen pipeline network under long-term contracts to enable production of low carbon chemicals and fuels. As part of the project, BP will appraise, develop and permit the geological storage sites for permanent sequestration of the CO2. BP’s trading & shipping business aims to... > read more
