MFE to host field trials for NDAA-compliant drone systems in real inspection environments

Read Time: 2 mins

Next month, MFE Inspection Solutions will host an event aimed at helping industrial teams evaluate NDAA-compliant drone systems and sensors from leading manufacturers, including Skydio, Freefly Systems, Teledyne FLIR, WISPR Systems, and RT Robotics. The event, titled MFE Field Trials, will be held in person and is designed for industrial inspection teams, reliability leaders, and drone program managers, offering a hands-on opportunity to assess compliant drone platforms in realistic field conditions.

According to Dylan Duke, the event comes at a pivotal time for professional drone programs, as more industrial organizations explore alternatives to DJI and seek NDAA-compliant solutions. He noted that many teams require more than specifications or trade show discussions, emphasizing that MFE Field Trials was created to allow operators to observe systems in action, engage directly with manufacturers, and evaluate performance in practical use cases.

MFE Field Trials is positioned as the first event of its kind, bringing together NDAA-compliant drone manufacturers for live demonstrations in real industrial environments. Its timing reflects broader changes in the industrial drone sector, where evolving regulations are prompting organizations to reconsider how they procure and deploy drone technology.

Unlike traditional trade shows, the event is structured as a hands-on evaluation day tailored for prospective buyers in oil and gas and other heavy industries. Attendees will have the opportunity to observe inspection flights on a live glycol unit, access designated free-fly zones during evaluation sessions, and consult directly with OEM representatives and MFE specialists regarding platform capabilities, payload options, and deployment strategies.

Cody Menchaca explained that the event is designed to help industrial teams make faster, more informed decisions. He highlighted that many operators face pressure to assess compliant alternatives but lack opportunities to compare multiple systems side by side in real-world conditions, something MFE Field Trials aims to address through its evaluation-focused format.

The event will take place at the San Jacinto College Center for Petrochemical, Energy & Technology in Pasadena, Texason Friday, April 17, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free, though space is limited and advance registration is recommended.
