Trans Mountain and the City of Edmonton are pleased to announce a community benefit agreement that will see a $250,000 investment from Trans Mountain towards a community amenity project in the Rosenthal neighborhood.
“Trans Mountain is committed to providing local and direct benefits to the communities the project impacted during construction. Our community benefit agreements program is in addition to local economic activity generated by construction, compensation to affected landowners and taxes to local government. It is designed to support local initiatives for the benefit of the entire community,” says Deanne Carson, vice president, corporate communications and government affairs, Trans Mountain.
Trans Mountain values the relationships it has built with communities along the pipeline corridor that span its 70-year history. They have negotiated agreements with local governments across BC and Alberta dedicating more than $16 million to community legacy projects that will have positive and lasting impacts on the lives of thousands of Canadians.
Community benefit agreements help to offset the construction impacts of the expansion project and provide direct benefits to communities, helping to fund initiatives from education and training opportunities, to investing in infrastructure and park and trail improvement projects.
Pipeline construction in the Greater Edmonton area successfully wrapped up in February 2022, marking completion of the first section of pipeline construction on the Trans Mountain expansion project. In late 2019, construction crews began working on this portion of the Project, which included 50 kilometres of pipeline running from Trans Mountain’s Edmonton Terminal in Sherwood Park to Acheson, Alberta.
