Pemex To Spud Well Offshore Mexico

Read Time: 1 min

Mexico’s national hydrocarbons commission CNH has approved plans submitted by state-owned company Pemex to run a shallow-water exploration campaign in the promising Sureste basin and in the vicinity of a cluster of fields being developed by Italian major Eni.

Pemex is looking to spud the Popoca-1EXP well in the AE-0149-M-Uchukil assignment in mid-June using the Seadrill jack-up drilling rig West Oberon, which is chartered until October 2025.

The 221-day program will take place in 31 meters of water and will target unrisked resources of up to 68 million barrels of oil equivalent in Cretaceous and Upper Jurassic-aged reservoirs, with the chance of success rated at 25 percent.
