Marathon Petroleum’s Los Angeles refinery was recently recognized for its outstanding commitment to the community. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach presented the refinery with the esteemed John C. Wallace Dream Maker Award during their 2024 Youth of the Year celebration. This event honors inspiring teenagers who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle.
The Los Angeles refinery has been actively involved in supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach for over a decade. They have provided over $1 million in funding for various teen programs, including the Diplomas to Degrees (d2D) college readiness initiative, personalized case management, coverage of college application fees, and homework assistance and tutoring. In recognition of Marathon Petroleum’s significant contributions, one of the club’s activity rooms has been renamed the Marathon Think Tank.
Don Rodriguez, the CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, expressed gratitude for the refinery’s ongoing support. He emphasized the vital role Marathon Petroleum plays in empowering the youth in the community and paving the way for their future success.
Leatha Hallmark, the Operations Manager at the Los Angeles refinery, accepted the John C. Wallace Dream Maker Award on behalf of Marathon Petroleum. Hallmark acknowledged the Boys & Girls Clubs’ instrumental role in nurturing the growth and development of countless young people. She expressed the refinery’s deep honor and commitment to supporting programs that empower youth in the community.
During the awards ceremony, the Marathon team, along with approximately 300 attendees, witnessed a historic moment. For the first time in the history of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, the Club named twins as the recipients of their annual Youth of the Year Award. Marathon Petroleum extends its congratulations to Oscar and Emani Jammott, the brother and sister duo, on their remarkable achievement.
