EverWind Fuels completes FEED for 240,000 TPA Green Hydrogen-to-Ammonia Plant

Read Time: 2 mins

EverWind Fuels, a key player in Atlantic Canada’s green energy sector, has wrapped up its FEED and FEL-3 stages with Black & Veatch for its Phase 1 Green Hydrogen to Green Ammonia project in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia. This milestone, achieved after over 110,000 hours of engineering, signifies a major step forward for the development of the Project and marks the first completion of FEED for such a large-scale facility in North America.

EverWind’s project utilizes state-of-the-art PEM electrolyzers and ammonia synthesis technology from Casale S.A., aiming to convert water from man-made Landrie Lake and energy primarily from newly-built wind farms into green hydrogen and green ammonia. The first phase is set to produce approximately 240,000 tones per annum of green ammonia, meeting stringent global standards for green fuels.

The initiative, part of EverWind’s broader strategy to establish an Atlantic Canadian green fuels hub, promises significant economic and environmental advantages for the region. With environmental approval for construction received in February 2023, the Project is scheduled to commence construction later this year, with operations expected to start in 2026.

Moreover, EverWind’s collaboration with local First Nations communities underscores its commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development practices. The project not only offers substantial job opportunities but also prioritizes community engagement and cultural preservation.

The completion of FEED represents just the beginning of EverWind’s journey towards a cleaner, brighter future. With strong support from government officials, industry leaders, and local communities, EverWind is poised to lead Nova Scotia’s transition towards green energy and contribute to Canada’s global clean energy leadership.

“We are thrilled to be among the first globally to have completed FEED engineering for our green hydrogen and green ammonia production facility. This accomplishment is representative of the detailed and important trailblazing work that EverWind is doing to enable our project to drive down the cost of the energy transition – work that is required to secure long-term, multi-billion dollar contracts. This marks a significant step forward in our mission to develop a green fuels hub in Atlantic Canada, and we look forward to continuing our work with Black & Veatch, a world leader in engineering and construction services as we move towards construction and operations.”

“We are committed to driving decarbonization globally and here in Nova Scotia. We’re confident that EverWind’s Point Tupper project will produce the greenist, most cost-competitive green hydrogen in North America.” Trent Vichie, CEO and founder of Everwind
