Read Time: 2 mins

Eavor, in collaboration with key stakeholders including the Government of Alberta, the Canadian Association of Energy Contractors, the Canadian Geothermal Energy Association, the Rural Municipalities Association, and Brazeau County, has initiated the planning and development of the Alberta Drilling Accelerator.

The ADA, spearheaded by the Government of Alberta, Eavor, and other partners, will serve as a technology-agnostic, market-driven geothermal test site accessible to any geothermal company. It aims to facilitate the exploration of novel drilling techniques and off-site technology development. This initiative marks a significant milestone in establishing Alberta as a global leader in geothermal technology commercialization and exports, with the ADA being the first of its kind in Canada.

The launch of the ADA aligns with Alberta’s ambition to foster innovation and promote technology development and adoption, thereby supporting its net-zero 2050 objectives and enhancing energy security. Leveraging the province’s renowned oil and gas sector, Alberta is well-positioned to scale innovative geothermal drilling methods and technologies, leveraging its skilled workforce and drilling assets.

The Honourable Rebecca Schulz, minister of environment & protected Areas, expressed enthusiasm for the ADA, highlighting its potential to propel Alberta to the forefront of the next wave of energy projects. She emphasized the initiative’s significance in reducing emissions, creating jobs, and bolstering energy security both domestically and globally.

John Redfern, president & CEO of Eavor Technologies, commended the Government of Alberta for its bold initiative, stressing the importance of scaling geothermal technologies to meet the growing demand. As Canada’s first geothermal test bed, the ADA is poised to accelerate geothermal development and support companies like Eavor in achieving their goals.

Eavor looks forward to continued collaboration with the Government of Alberta and other stakeholders in establishing the province as a hub for geothermal innovation on a global scale. The launch of the ADA signifies a significant step towards achieving this vision and advancing sustainable energy solutions for the future.
