Houston-based Buckeye Partners has enlisted fellow US company Black & Veatch to help build a 270-megawatt solar project in central Texas.
Black & Veatch confirmed last week it had been awarded a contract to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for Buckeye’s planned Project Parker photovoltaic solar project.
The proposed development will see the installation of over 500,000 solar panels installed across two adjacent sites near Waco, Texas, in Falls County, with the project currently slated for completion in early 2023.
“Our strategy is squarely focused on energy diversity and lower-carbon solutions, and we are excited to partner with Black & Veatch to advance this critical solar project,” said Todd J Russo, Buckeye’s executive vice president, Strategy and Alternative Energy.
“Project Parker will further expand Buckeye’s growing renewable portfolio and add additional momentum to our ESG initiatives and continued progress in the space.”
Buckeye acquired the “construction-ready” solar project last year from OCI Solar Power, which had already secured site control and completed all permitting and electrical interconnection agreements prior to the sale.
Buckeye, which manages over 10,000 kilometres of petroleum pipelines and more than 100 truck-loading terminals, was acquired by IFM Investors in 2019 in a $10.3 billion deal.
The Australian investment service provider is targeting net zero emissions across its infrastructure portfolio, which includes Buckeye, by 2050.
