AMPP applauds increased funding for corrosion oversight in FY25 national defense authorization act

Read Time: 2 mins

The Association for Materials Protection and Performance has expressed its approval for the anticipated bipartisan passage of the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act. The legislation highlights Congressional recognition of the importance of materials protection in bolstering the defence industry and national security.

The NDAA allocates $7.1 million to the Department of Defense Office of Corrosion Policy and Oversight, representing a substantial increase of approximately $4.5 million over the initial proposal. This enhanced funding aims to strengthen efforts to combat corrosion, a critical factor affecting the safety, readiness, and longevity of defence assets.

“This funding increase underscores Congress’ recognition of the critical role that corrosion prevention plays in maintaining the safety, readiness, and longevity of defense assets,” stated Kern Williams, AMPP Manager of Government Relations. “This is not just an investment in infrastructure; it’s an investment in national security.”

Longstanding Partnership with DoD

AMPP has collaborated with the DoD’s CPO for over 20 years, focusing on reducing lifecycle costs, improving equipment availability, enhancing safety, and extending the lifespan of defence systems and infrastructure. Corrosion impacts every stage of the defence lifecycle, from operational environments to aging facilities, necessitating proactive strategies to address these challenges.

Broader Opportunities in the NDAA

The 1,800+ page legislation includes diverse provisions and funding opportunities for AMPP members engaged in the DoD supply chain. The detailed text of the NDAA and the Joint Explanatory Statement are available on the Senate Armed Services Committee’s website.

Advocacy for Future Legislation

Looking ahead, AMPP’s Government Relations team is actively preparing for the FY2026 NDAA. The organisation remains committed to aligning the materials performance industry’s priorities with those of the DoD, ensuring continued advocacy for increased funding and support for critical initiatives.

This legislation represents a significant step forward in safeguarding defence assets and underscores the pivotal role of materials protection in advancing national security.
