New Division Heads At Shell

Read Time: 2 mins

Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell has brought a new person into its eight-member executive committee, appointing Zoe Yujnovich to the position of upstream director from October 25, the company said in a statement.

Yujnovich will replace Wael Sawan who will, however, remain on the executive committee as he will become integrated gas, renewables and energy solutions director on the same date.

This last post is currently held by Maarten Wetselaar who will leave Shell after more than 25 years with the company at the end of October.

Wetselaar will join Spain’s Cepsa as chief executive officer from January 1, 2022, Shell said.

According to the company, Yujnovich has nearly 25 years of frontline and leadership experience, most recently based in The Hague as Shell’s executive vice president in conventional oil and gas.

Previously she was a country chair for Shell’s businesses in Australia and New Zealand, overseeing the commissioning of company’s $10 billion giant Prelude floating LNG facility in 2018.

Prior to her tenure in Australia, her home country, Yujnovich served Shell’s executive vice president for oil sands in Canada, based in Calgary.

Joining Shell in 1997, Sawan has worked across company’s upstream, integrated gas and downstream businesses at various positions, with locations spanning across Europe, the Middle East and America.

In 2012, he became managing director and chairman of the Qatar Shell companies where his responsibilities included $18 billion Pearl GTL, one of the largest gas-to-liquids projects in the world put into operation by Shell in partnership with Qatar Energy in 2011.

From there, Sawan went to run Shell’s deep water business, based in Houston in the US, in 2015 and then in July 2019, he was appointed upstream director and a member of the executive committee of Shell.
